Construction of the new College of Engineering & Computing building at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique campus marked another significant milestone this week.
The University held a “topping out” ceremony at the construction site on Friday, August 11, during which workers fastened the final steel beam into place at the top of the building. Work will now commence on the installation of the building’s exterior walls, followed by its interior features.
The $48.4 million facility sits on the corner of Southwest 8th Street and Southwest 107th Avenue thanks in large part to a state legislative appropriation of $39 million and additional philanthropic and research funding. Technology in the building will be enhanced with private funds, including part of a $10 million gift from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
The college is very excited about this expansion and what the future brings – engineering bright futures! 💻⚙️🚀🚧🐾🌉
Special thanks to President Kenneth A. Jessell, Dean John (Yiannis) Volakis and the DPR Construction team.
