Message from the Dean

FIU owes its success to the dedication of its students, faculty, staff, alumni, university leaders, and valued industry, government and community partners. I want to recognize the vital role our College of Engineering & Computing has played in this success.
As South Florida’s leading center for engineering and computer science education and research, we’re committed to academic excellence, impactful research and transformational innovation. Year after year, our college continues to grow alongside Miami’s rapid rise as a global tech mecca.
Our students and faculty engage in meaningful research and industry partnerships at the forefront of technologies driving the future, from AI and cybersecurity to robotics and automation, bioinformatics and biodevices, resilient infrastructure and next-generation electronics.
In recent years, the College of Engineering and Computing has more than doubled its research expenditures, with nearly 200 patents awarded to our faculty in just five years. These achievements reflect our relentless pursuit of innovation and our commitment to addressing society’s most complex challenges.
Looking ahead, advances in manufacturing, health, data science, artificial intelligence and wireless communication will continue to shape our daily lives. Our college is not only driving innovation in these fields but also preparing the next generation of engineers and computing professionals.
Our priority remains clear: to produce a dynamic, sustainable and AI-ready workforce of highly skilled professionals, prepared to make impactful contributions to the industries of today and shape the technologies of tomorrow.
