Applying to FIU as an International Student

Admission to FIU is selective. Every year we receive thousands of applications from students around the world with varying academic profiles. The admissions committee looks for applicants who are academically prepared, have challenged themselves with advanced courses, are active in their community and are motivated by a specific goal or passion.

Like all applicants, international students must take any required entrance exams, submit transcripts and meet program-specific admissions criteria.

As an international applicant, there are additional forms, materials and processes you must complete. Our International Admissions team has compiled resources and requirements for prospective international students.

Once you have chosen a degree or program and have read and understood the requirements, the next step is to submit your application.

STEM-designated programs

The College of Engineering and Computing offers several STEM-designated programs. After completing a STEM-designated program, international students have the opportunity of Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows students to work within the U.S. for up to 36 months (one year of OPT + two years of STEM OPT) for STEM designated programs.
