Major in Civil Engineering
The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering prepares you for the essential work of creating our world’s railways, highways, bridges, airports, seaports and public buildings. The in-depth courses emphasize the planning instrumental in municipal construction and vital infrastructure.
Students will learn the essential skills to meet the design standards of both private industry and government, while familiarizing themselves with broad disciplines including geotechnical, environmental and structural surveying, transportation and water resources engineering.

Classes
In the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, you’ll learn the fundamentals regarding, design, construction, operation and maintenance of land and physical facilities while exploring topics like:
- Structural engineering
- Environmental and geotechnical engineering
- Construction
- Transportation and logistics

Requirements
Civil Engineering students must take and pass CGN4980. Students showing evidence of passing the state FE (EIT) examination will have this requirement waived.
Senior Design Project
This program requires a Senior Design capstone project, to be completed in your last two semesters.
During this two-semester course, you will be mentored by faculty and industry leaders as you work to solve real-world engineering problems. Using your newly learned skills, you will undertake product design, implementation and budgeting as part of a team.

Accelerated Tracks
The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering offers two accelerated tracks for those who wish to pursue a combined BS/MS in Civil Engineering or an MS in Environmental Engineering.
Only those approaching their senior year with a minimum 3.3 GPA may apply. Eligible students may count up to nine credits toward the BS and MS requirements. Speak with your advisor for more information.

BS/MS in Civil Engineering Track
The Civil Engineering Accelerated Degree Pathway allows students to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering in five years instead of the typical six.

MS in Environmental Engineering Track
The Accelerated Degree Pathway in Environmental Engineering allows students to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering in five years instead of the typical six.
Apply to FIU
Interested students are encouraged to apply to FIU as early as possible. Applicants must submit a high school diploma, SAT, ACT or CLT scores and transcripts from all schools attended.
