Tracks & Specializations

The MS in Information Technology program consists of four tracks, Software, System Administration, Security and Networking, each designed to support different future outcomes.

  • Software Track

    This track prepares students with fundamental methods and cutting-edge technologies for developing and maintaining software systems. It teaches the major techniques for modeling, designing, and analyzing software systems.

  • System Administration Track

    This track prepares students to install, support and maintain servers or other digital infrastructure systems. It teaches planning and response for service outages, basic scripting and programming, as well as setting up custom operating environments.

  • Security Track

    This track prepares students with the skills and information required for system and network operations. It teaches advanced facets of cybersecurity, automation, and securing telecommunications.

  • Networking Track

    This Track prepares students for the ever-changing environment of real-time global information networking, telecommunications and wireless strategies. It teaches how to amplify business through digital communications, technologies and systems.

Program Information

  • Application Requirements
    • 4-year bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer engineering, computer science, or similar fields, from an accredited institution
    • Submit the FIU Master’s Program Online Application, which will ask you to submit:
      • Official transcripts of all previously earned college or university credits
      • A statement or letter of intent
      • Three letters of recommendation
      • A statement of objectives
      • Resume or CV

  • International Students

    International students should refer to the FIU International Admissions site for additional instructions on how to apply or enroll as a first-time or transferring international student.

  • STEM Designation

    The Master of Science in Information Technology is a STEM-designated program. After program completion, international students have the opportunity of Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows students to work within the U.S. for up to 36 months (one year of OPT + two years of STEM OPT) for STEM designated programs.
