Master's in Applied AI & Internet of Things

The MS in Applied AI & Internet of Things (IoT) is a professional graduate program that enables students to engage with the full life cycle of data and understand its applications to emerging fields of technology, including cybersecurity, networking, the Internet of Things, sensors and robotics.

The curriculum prepares you to implement AI solutions, conduct advanced research and master data sciences. Graduates of this program have gone on to work in smart home automation, autonomous automotive technologies, smart manufacturing, precision agriculture, AI-optimized energy grids, urban development, e-commerce, telecommunications and financial services.

Course Outcomes

In the MS in Applied AI & IoT program, our curriculum is designed to help you master specialized knowledge in:

  • Implementation of regression, classification and clustering algorithms
  • Application of image processing
  • Sequencing/time series data using Convolution Neural Network and Recurrent Neural Network algorithms
  • Big data technologies and their application to large-scale data sets Data storage using Hadoop Distributed File System
  • Batch processing In-memory analytics using Spark
  • Importing data with Kafka message broker
  • No-SQL databases like Cassandra or Mongo DB

Program Information

  • Application Requirements
    • 4-year bachelor’s degree in engineering or a closely related field, such as business administration, from an accredited institution
    • Submit the FIU Master’s Program Online Application, which will ask you to submit:
      • Official transcripts of all previously earned college or university credits
      • A statement or letter of intent
      • Three letters of recommendation
      • A statement of objectives
      • Resume or CV
    • Familiarity with programming

  • Hybrid Schedule

    The MS in Applied AI & IoT program is taught during regular, 15-week semesters, and courses are offered in a hybrid model. 

    Hybrid classes have both in-person, classroom sessions on campus and out-of-classroom learning experiences. Hybrid classes will have a set schedule for the days and times the in-person classes meet. 

    The breakdown is about a third to two-thirds of the in-person classroom sessions, and the rest of the out-of-classroom experiences may be completed through Canvas, other online resources or with experiential learning at off-campus sites.

  • STEM Designation

    The Master of Science in Applied AI & IoT is a STEM-designated program. After program completion, international students have the opportunity of Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows students to work within the U.S. for up to 36 months (one year of OPT + two years of STEM OPT) for STEM designated programs.
