S. S. Iyengar, Distinguished University Professor and director of FIU’s U.S. Army-funded Center of Excellence in Digital Forensics, has been named a 2026 inductee into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame (FIHF) for his groundbreaking contributions to distributed sensor networks, artificial intelligence and intelligent systems.
Among his most influential contributions is the Brooks–Iyengar Algorithm, an innovation that improved how complex systems analyze and process large amounts of information. His work also contributed to the development of the Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model, helping improve storm impact prediction and disaster resilience efforts across the state.
Iyengar holds more than nine U.S. patents and has authored more than 600 publications as well as over 30 books. He is a Fellow of several leading national and international scientific and engineering organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
The Florida Inventors Hall of Fame honors inventors whose achievements have advanced innovation and improved quality of life across Florida and beyond, recognizing leaders whose work continues to shape the future of research, technology and society.
