Celebrating Faculty Excellence: Two FIU Faculty Named Rising Stars by Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida

Two of our faculty members—Associate Professor M. Hadi Amini and Assistant Professor Ali Ebrahimian—have been recognized among the 2025 Rising Stars by the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL).

The Rising Stars program honors early-career faculty and professionals across Florida whose innovation and scholarly achievements demonstrate exceptional promise in addressing critical challenges in science, engineering, and medicine. This year, 168 nominations were submitted, and 22 finalists were selected statewide.

Associate Professor M. Hadi Amini, Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences, was recognized for pioneering research in bridging the gap between computing sciences (learning and optimization) and cyber-physical critical infrastructures security and resilience.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to be recognized as one of the Rising Stars in Science by ASEMFL. This recognition highlights the impact and importance of our groundbreaking research at the intersection of AI, cybersecurity, and cyber-physical systems at FIU, and it emphasizes the value of advancing solutions to emerging scientific challenges. It further motivates me to continue pursuing impactful research at FIU.”

Assistant Professor Ali Ebrahimian, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was recognized for pioneering innovative solutions for flood- and pollution-resilient urban and coastal systems using green stormwater infrastructure and AI.

“I am deeply honored by this recognition from ASEMFL, which reinforces the value of advancing science-driven, nature-based solutions to water and environmental challenges, while highlighting the importance of FIU’s strategic focus on environmental resilience.”

Congratulations to both faculty on this significant achievement, which highlights FIU’s leadership in advancing impactful research and innovation.
