Yasir Arfat Malkani

Biography

Dr. Yasir Arfat Malkani is an assistant teaching professor in the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences (KFSCIS) at Florida International University. He brings more than 20 years of experience in teaching and research in computer science and information technology. His teaching interests span programming, computer systems, data science, modeling and simulation, cybersecurity, and emerging computing technologies.


Dr. Malkani earned his Ph.D. in Informatics from the University of Sussex, UK, in 2011. His doctoral research focused on secure device pairing in ubiquitous computing, resulting in the development of a Proof-of-Proximity Framework for Device Pairing in Ubiquitous Computing Environments. His Ph.D. research examined how physical proximity and contextual information can be used to establish secure associations between computing devices.


At the KFSCIS, Dr. Malkani currently teaches Operating Systems Principles, Introduction to Game Design and Development, Fundamentals of Modeling and Simulation, and Introduction to Data Science. His broader teaching interests include Python, C/C++, object-oriented programming with Java, secure C programming, data structures, operating systems, and foundational computing courses. He is particularly interested in practical and application-oriented teaching that helps students develop strong programming, computational thinking, and problem-solving skills.
