Biography

Mst Shamim Ara Shawkat, Ph.D., received her Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee (UTK) in 2019. She received her MS in Telecommunications from Waseda University, Japan, in 2006 and her BS in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2002.

She's currently an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Florida International University. Before joining FIU, she was a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UTK. She also worked as a faculty member at BUET for four years.

Her research interests include mixed-signal VLSI circuits, optical detector design for quantum computing and biomedical imaging, neuromorphic computing hardware design and wireless power transfer for biomedical applications.

She published over 40 scientific articles (including journals, conference papers and book chapters) in prestigious platforms.
