Biography
Mabel Fernandez Rodriguez is a program manager in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Florida International University. She brings more than 20 years of experience in financial management, program administration and higher education operations. In her current role, she assists the department chair with administrative, financial, budgetary and human resources operations, manages departmental budgets and funds, and supports graduate students through advising and academic tracking.
Since joining the university in 2014, Fernandez Rodriguez has served in several administrative and managerial positions within the College of Engineering and Computing. She previously managed operations for the School of Biomedical, Materials and Mechanical Engineering and held leadership roles that strengthened cross-departmental collaboration, improved efficiency and ensured compliance with university policies and procedures.
Before joining FIU, Fernandez Rodriguez held positions in financial analysis, procurement and logistics with multinational and private-sector organizations including Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and Humana Insurance. She has also worked in accounting and office management in Puerto Rico.
Fernandez Rodriguez earned a Master of Business Administration in marketing and a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras. She also holds a Project Management Certificate from the University of Miami. Fluent in English and Spanish, she is committed to promoting operational excellence, student success and institutional effectiveness across the university.
