Biography
Jose Faria earned a B.S. in industrial engineering from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas, Venezuela; an M.S. in systems engineering; and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. He has been with FIU’s Moss School of Construction since 2006, following three years as an adjunct and lecturer at American University in Washington, D.C., and the University of Maryland, College Park.
Before entering academia, he spent 10 years in the beverage industry, developing and installing bottling systems in the United States and internationally. This experience opened opportunities for collaboration throughout Central and South America.
His research focuses on optimization techniques for land development, mathematical decomposition methods, decision analysis for capital allocation, and probabilistic optimization models. Current projects include applications of technologies construction. He also served as program director for a Susan Harwood Training Grant at FIU and founded the Certificate Program in Construction Trades, a workforce development initiative providing free training to community members.
Prof. Faria teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and currently serves as the Moss Endowed Chair of the Moss School of Construction, where he oversees 24 faculty members and four staff, guiding the school's strategic direction.
