Biography

Hamid Shahrestani is a seasoned engineering leader and educator with over four decades of expertise in biomedical device development, regulatory compliance, and quality systems. He currently serves as CEO and President of Qualtech Solutions, Inc. (2003-present), delivering strategic engineering and management consulting to the biomedical industry in R&D, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing optimization.

Prior to founding Qualtech, Hamid held progressive leadership roles at global medical device firms. As Senior Director of Engineering at Boston Scientific (1997-2003), he spearheaded new product development and market introduction of minimally invasive diagnostic devices. He previously directed engineering and process development for hemodialysis systems at Althin Medical (1995-1997), managed regulatory and process engineering for cardiac pacing devices at Telectronics Pacing Systems (1993-1995), and spent a decade as Senior Design Engineer at CR Bard Corporation (1983-1993), advancing pain management and hematology technologies.

An accomplished educator, Hamid is an Associate Teaching professor with the department of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University teaching various undergrad and graduate courses in areas of design, manufacturing, regulatory, quality assurance, and process development. He was an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University from 2004-2024, teaching Design of Biomedical Systems & Devices and Senior Project Organization. He previously taught Data Evaluation Techniques at FIU (2003-2004) and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Massachusetts Boston (1985-1986). In 2010, he was nominated for FIU’s Adjunct Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award.

Hamid holds dual Master’s degrees in Industrial & Systems Engineering and Engineering Management from the University of Florida (2001), a B.S. and A.S. in Electrical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology (1984, 1982), and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Six Sigma Black Belt. He actively pursues professional development through MD&M conferences and the International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF).

A member of ASME, IEEE, ASQ Engineering, and ASQ Management, Hamid is recognized for blending technical rigor with practical innovation to advance safer, more effective medical technologies.
