Biography
Gregory Murad Reis is an Associate Teaching Professor at FIU’s Knight Foundation School of Computing & Information Sciences. With more than 23 years of experience in mathematics and computer science education, he holds a Ph.D. in computer science and specializes in artificial intelligence, marine robotics, data science and STEM education.
He also serves as affiliated faculty and researcher in FIU’s Institute of Environment, where his work encompasses underwater robot navigation in GPS-denied environments, real-time ocean monitoring, and the application of AI in agriculture and environmental science. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles and his work has accrued several citations. He has led major sponsored research projects totaling approximately in external funding from agencies such as CAPES, NIST, DHS, DOD, FDEP, NSF and others. In these efforts, he has mentored hundreds of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students and actively contributes to Ph.D. committees.
His teaching philosophy emphasizes inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary collaboration and preparing students to address real-world challenges at the intersection of computing, robotics and the environment.
