Biography
Albert Gan is a Professor with the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Florida International University and the principal investigator at the Lehman Center for Transportation Research. His areas of research have included highway safety, traffic simulation, ITS, GIS, transit planning, and demand modeling. Recognizing the data-dependent nature of the transportation field, Albert Gan has focused his recent research on developing innovative methods and tools that facilitate the collection, integration, analysis, and dissemination of transportation data. Albert Gan has been the developer of more than 20 transportation software systems, including the nationally known Florida Transit Information System (FTIS). Since joining FIU in 1999, Albert Gan has served as the Principal Investigator for over $12M of sponsored research projects and over $7M as Co-Principal Investigator. Albert Gan has authored or co-authored over 230 refereed papers, technical reports, and articles.
A recipient of the inaugural Dean’s Doctoral Mentorship Award of the FIU College of Engineering & Computing, Albert Gan has served as the major advisor of 18 Ph.D. and over 40 M.S. graduates. Under Albert Gan’s advisorship, the FIU Student Chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) was honored as the Best ITE Student Chapter internationally in 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008. In addition, Albert Gan’s students were named winners of the Best ITE Student Paper Award in 2000, 2004, and 2005. Albert Gan has taught the following courses: Transportation and Traffic Engineering (undergraduate), Advanced Highway Capacity Analysis (FIU), Traffic Control Systems Design (FIU), Transportation Demand Analysis (FIU and UF), Geometric Design of Highway Facilities (UF), and Civil Engineering Systems (FIU and UF).
