Biography
Agoritsa Polyzou is an Assistant Professor in the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences at Florida International University, specializing in data mining, machine learning, and responsible AI with a strong focus on their application within the context of higher education. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and previously served as a Fritz Family Postdoctoral Fellow at Georgetown University’s Massive Data Institute. Her research advances ethical and interpretable data-driven decision-making with predictive and recommender systems. In higher education, her work supports student success and advising, including performance prediction, course recommendation, and fair team formation. More recently, she explores ways to improve the responsible use and trustworthiness of Large Language Models (LLMs). Polyzou has published extensively in reputable conferences and journals, contributed to federally funded research, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and actively mentoring students.
