Biography
Abdul Rehman Gilal is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences. He has extensive experience in teaching, research and academic leadership across the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Malaysia, and Pakistan. His teaching and research interests include software engineering; cybersecurity; artificial intelligence in programming; and web-based systems.
Gilal has published several peer-reviewed research articles and books. His current scholarly work focuses on AI-assisted secure coding, threat modeling and the development of assurance cases for emerging technologies such as drones and adversarial machine learning systems. He also serves as a lead auditor and actively contributes to curriculum innovation by integrating generative AI tools into software engineering education. His academic mission emphasizes experiential learning, ethical AI practices and the preparing of students to design secure, reliable and socially responsible computing systems.
