Celebrating Faculty Excellence: National Honors in Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science

Two of our College of Engineering and Computing faculty members have recently been recognized with prestigious honors that highlight their lasting impact in research, innovation, and service.

Joshua Hutcheson, associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, has been elected Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA). This honor recognizes excellence, innovative and sustained contributions in scholarship, practice, education, and volunteer service that support the AHA mission: to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. Hutcheson’s research in cardiovascular biomechanics and vascular biology has advanced understanding of arterial disease progression, contributing to improved approaches for diagnosis and treatment. His election to Fellow status reflects both his scientific leadership and his service to the cardiovascular research community.

S.S. Iyengar, Distinguished University Professor in the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences, has been inducted into the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL). A globally renowned scholar, Iyengar is widely recognized as a pioneer in sensor networks, data fusion, digital forensics, and artificial intelligence. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has authored more than 600 research papers and 30 books that have shaped fields from AI to cybersecurity, while mentoring more than 65 Ph.D. students who now hold leadership positions worldwide. His induction into ASEMFL recognizes not only his groundbreaking contributions but also his enduring legacy as a leader, educator, and mentor.
