FIU College of Engineering and Computing Associate Professor Armin Mehrabi and Postdoctoral Associates Denny John and Sohail Mohammed were named Senior Members by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) last month. They are part of the 162 emerging academic inventors identified by NAI’s Member Institutions and welcomed to the 2025 class of Senior Members.
This year’s class of NAI Senior Members is the largest to date and hails from 64 NAI Member Institutions across the nation. Collectively, they are named inventors on over 1200 U.S. patents.
“To see this program grow year over year is a testament to the dedication our Member Institutions have to fostering innovation on their campuses and supporting their inventive staff and faculty,” said Paul R. Sanberg, President of NAI. “This year’s class comes from a multitude of impressive fields and research backgrounds from across the world. We applaud their pursuit of commercialization to ensure their groundbreaking technologies can make a difference by tackling the world’s most pressing issues, improving quality of life across society, and advancing the economy.”
Denny John and Sohail Mohammed are Postdoctoral Associates in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. They innovate multi-functional composites for aerospace applications at FIU’s Cold Spray and Rapid Deposition (ColRAD) Lab, one of the region’s leading research hubs for additive manufacturing.
Armin Mehrabi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and leads the Non-destructive Testing Lab. With his group of researchers, he has advanced a wide array of research regarding bridge safety, including the study of how cracks and defects in bridges can be monitored without needing to take them apart.
