Congratulations to Dr. Sumit Paudyal (Lead PI, ECE) and Dr. Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman (Co-PI, KFSCIS) on securing a $5M grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE NNSA) to extend the Consortium for Research and Education in Power and Energy Systems (CREPES) into its next phase, CREPES 2.0! This 5-year initiative (2024-2029) builds on the incredible success of CREPES 1.0, which has already trained 75 students and created nearly 50 internships at prestigious national labs like Sandia and Lawrence Livermore.
Through this partnership between FIU, UTEP, AAMU, and leading national laboratories, CREPES 2.0 continues its mission to develop a pipeline of highly skilled students from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in electrical engineering, energy systems, and cyber security—ensuring a sustainable workforce in critical national security fields.
