Major in Cybersecurity
The Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity at FIU prepares you to serve as a cyber guardian that anticipates, detects and neutralizes malicious activity in the digital realm.
Cybersecurity is an integral part of computer infrastructure, encompassing everything from development of large-scale defense frameworks to the implementation of best practices at the individual user level.
You will learn the core principles of cybersecurity, including the intricacies of network security, cryptography, ethical hacking and digital forensics.

Classes
Your coursework focuses on the core principles of cybersecurity and how they apply to a real-world setting, including non-engineering subjects like psychology and macroeconomics.
Your upper-division electives will let you branch out and learn about more specialized subject matter, such as:
- Digital forensics
- Automation
- Quantum computing
- Data management
- Enterprise troubleshooting
- Network and database administration
- Mobile development and security

Senior Design Project
This program requires a Senior Design capstone project, to be completed in your last two semesters.
During this two-semester course, you will be mentored by faculty and industry leaders as you work to address and solve real-world problems. Using your newly learned skills, you will undertake the design, implementation and budgeting of a solution as part of a team.
How are IT and Cybersecurity degrees different?
IT staff is responsible for maintenance of critical infrastructure, including managing user accounts, installing hardware or software, and administering systems.
With a cybersecurity degree, you would be responsible for protecting that critical infrastructure, establishing security frameworks to prevent malicious activity and unauthorized access.
