Major in Computer Engineering
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at FIU prepares you for the dynamic intersection of hardware and software. Our rigorous curriculum emphasizes the latest developments in computing systems, from quantum-level research to evolutions in large-scale infrastructure implementation.
You will learn engineering concepts and design principles for technologies central to both industry and research, including servers, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and autonomous smart systems.

Classes
When enrolled in our program, you can narrow the focus of your degree through our course concentrations. You must select at least two concentrations from the following:
- Bio-engineering
- Communications
- Autonomous Systems and Control
- Embedded System Software
- Integration Nano-technology
- Power and Energy
- Computer Architecture and Microprocessor Design
- Data System Software
- Networking and Security
- Cybersecurity
- Digital Forensics
- Internet of Things
- Entrepreneurship
- AI and Big Data

Senior Design Project
This program requires a Senior Design capstone project, to be completed in your last two semesters.
During this two-semester course, you will be mentored by faculty and industry leaders as you work to address and solve real-world engineering problems. Using your newly learned skills, you will undertake product design, implementation and budgeting as part of a team.
Tracks
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering offers two optional tracks if you are interested in pursuing a future career in medicine or physics.
Both tracks build upon the foundational computer engineering curriculum, adding track-specific concentrations for further immersion in your field of choice.

Pre-Medical Track
The Pre-Medical track is designed for students with dual interests in computer engineering and the field of medicine.

Physics Track
The Physics track is designed for students with dual interests in computer engineering and physics.
Get your Master’s in Five Years
High-performing students with at least 75-90 credits can apply for the Combined BS/MS in Computer Engineering degree pathway to earn both degrees within five years.

Apply to FIU
Interested students are encouraged to apply to FIU as early as possible. Applicants must submit a high school diploma, SAT, ACT or CLT scores and transcripts from all schools attended.
