Biography
Rehan Akbar, Associate Teaching Professor, is an award winning, accomplished academic and computing professional with over 24 years of experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Information Systems.
He holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology, an MS in Computer Science, and an MSc in Computer Science. He is a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE), a Professional Member of ACM, and an active member of the Association for Information Systems (AIS).
Before joining FIU, he was working as Associate Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, and also served as Associate Professor and Head of Department at the Department of Information Systems, Faculty of Information & Communication Technology, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia. He has been working in the industry as Project Manager, and Software Engineer.
Throughout his career, he has held academic, administrative, management, and industry positions, contributing significantly to teaching, curriculum development, research, and program development. He possesses extensive expertise in Outcome-Based Education (OBE), curriculum design, and quality assurance, supported by formal accreditation certifications in Quality Assurance Systems, Program Accreditation, and Outcome-Based Education.
He has played a key role in the design and development of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degree programs, leading initiatives in academic planning, program assessment, accreditation processes, and continuous quality improvement (CQI). His work is completely aligned with ABET and ACM professional standards and global accreditation frameworks.
He maintains strong technical expertise through continuous research and publication in leading venues such as IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, and SAGE, with research interests spanning cybersecurity, software engineering, and big data. He also serves as a reviewer, guest editor, keynote speaker, research grant evaluator, and advisor for international journals and conferences.
Recognized for his teaching excellence, academic leadership, and commitment to continuous improvement, he remains dedicated to advancing innovation, quality, and professional standards in computing education and practice globally.
