Khokiat Kengskool is currently an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Since 2016, he has served in the role of “Professor of Practice and Director of International Programs for Southeast Asia” for the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC). In this role, he has recruited highly qualified Ph.D. students from leading universities in Thailand for all engineering departments of CEC. Kengskool’s efforts to recruit, admit and retain highly qualified PH.D. students have significantly helped with the support of engineering Ph.D. programs as well as to establish, promote and provide cost-effective exchange and study abroad programs.

From 2017 to 2025, twelve leading educational institutions in Thailand have had an official memorandum of understanding (MOU) with FIU. Starting in the Spring of 2024, Kengskool has extended the scope of educational needs of students, including, but not limited to the students in the field of Engineering and Computing, Medical, Nursing and Health Sciences, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Business, Communication, Journalism, Asian Studies, Social Sciences and Humanities. Kengskool has been working closely with the Office of the Provost for Regional and World Locations through all established MOU, which is the key to increasing FIU’s global academic reputation and world renown.

Kengskool’s areas of research include Applied Artificial Intelligence, Decision-Making Support Systems and Productivity Enhancement. He has over 70 refereed publications and has given over 50 national and international presentations in the areas of Productivity Enhancement and Applied Artificial Intelligence. He is the sole author of a published textbook for engineering students, “Understanding Engineering Economy, A Practical Approach” (since 2016).

Kengskool has received several grants from major U.S. corporations and U.S. government agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF) for his research. He has earned numerous honors and awards in his career, including an honorable “FIU Teaching Award” in 1996. Most recently in the Spring of 2025, Kengskool was invited to participate in the “Faculty Impact: Celebrating Faculty Excellence” event as an awardee for “FIU Book Authors Recognition”, organized by the Office of the Provost, Faculty Leadership and Success.

Kengskool earned his master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1983 and 1986, respectively. He also earned a master’s degree in engineering management from Missouri University of Science and Technology (Rolla, Missouri) in 1976. He received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Industrial Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand in 1974. Kengskool has been serving CEC for nearly 40 years since the Spring of 1986.
