Stavros Georgakopoulos Arif SarwatFIU’s Office of the Provost has awarded the prestigious title of Distinguished University Professor to Dr. Stavros Georgakopoulos and Dr. Arif Sarwat, both from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering and Computing.

This honor represents the highest academic rank at Florida International University and recognizes sustained contributions and exceptional achievements in research, creative activities, teaching, and service.

“I concur with the recommendation of the University Special Selection Committee to promote and recognize them as Distinguished University Professors. This rank is the highest rank available to Professors of the University,” wrote Elizabeth M. Béjar, FIU Provost, Executive Vice President, and COO.

Dr. Georgakopoulos, professor and Director of Transforming Antennas Lab, is known for his pioneering work in reconfigurable antennas and wireless systems. His research has been instrumental in advancing electromagnetic theory and applications.

Dr. Sarwat, who serves as professor and Director of Engineering for Industry and Research Collaborations, is internationally recognized for his impactful work in energy systems, smart grids, and transportation electrification.

The Distinguished University Professor designation underscores FIU’s commitment to academic excellence and celebrates the enduring impact of faculty leaders.
