The College of Engineering and Computing is proud to announce Ph.D. graduate Abhijith Sukumaran as its 2025 Outstanding Graduate for the Spring.

Sukumaran, who earned his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, has made groundbreaking contributions to space materials research by developing Ti-hBN multifunctional coatings for lunar structural components. His work, tested on the International Space Station and NASA facilities, enhances materials’ durability in extreme lunar environments. With 20 publications, 3 patents, and a NASA TRL-7 achievement, he has significantly advanced space coating technologies, impacting future Artemis and HLS missions.

Abhijith Sukumaran received two job offers in the aerospace and energy industries and is currently working as a materials scientist in the aerospace and energy industry in Jupiter, Florida. His expertise in advanced coatings for extreme environments made him a sought-after candidate, allowing him to contribute to cutting-edge research and development in high-performance materials for space exploration and energy applications.
