Congratulations to David Garber, associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and director of workforce development for FIU’s Accelerated Bridge Construction University Transportation Center, for being named the 2021 Educator of the Year by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI). The purpose of the PCI Educator of the Year Award is to recognize truly significant early-career contributions to primary education and secondarily research related to prestressed and precast concrete.
Garber joined FIU in 2014 and has since led many large-scale experimental and analytical research projects related to precast, prestressed concrete and accelerated bridge construction. He is a member of the PCI Student Education Committee and bridge committee.
Garber has also facilitated and organized numerous educational outreach activities, including summer camps for elementary school students and their parents, teacher workshops and others with the local public library system.
He has developed many educational videos related to reinforced and prestressed concrete analysis and design, which are available on his YouTube channel.
