Announces Multiple Faculty Positions

Florida International University (FIU) College of Engineering and Computing is seeking applications and nominations for multiple faculty positions in each of its units and programs; Biomedical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computing and Information Sciences, Construction Management, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Engineering Management, and Mechanical and Materials Engineering. The College expects to grow its faculty over the next four years from its current size of 124 to about 160. This year alone, over 15 faculty lines are open in specific disciplines, in addition to cluster hires, as described below.

Florida International University

FIU College of Engineering and Computing is one of the fastest growing engineering schools in the nation. In less than 30 years, the College has grown exponentially to a student body of 5,000 (including 300 doctoral students) and a faculty size of 124; offering 10 bachelors, 12 masters, and six (6) doctoral degree programs. The College has also developed an impressive research portfolio to the tune of $17.5M per year, and an equally impressive research infrastructure, including a $15M Motorola Nanofabrication Facility, Titan America Structures and Construction Testing Facility, and Wall of Wind Hurricane Facility. The College has over a $20M endowment, including a $10M in Biomedical Engineering from the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation. Although regarded as a young college, our tradition of excellence and innovation is entwined with a culture of diversity, reflected in our dedicated faculty and growing alumni base of over 15,000 Golden Panther engineers.

Interdisciplinary Cluster Hires

In addition to the discipline-based faculty hires, the College is looking for dynamic and innovative leaders as part of multiple cluster hires. Successful candidates must possess the ability to forge an outstanding interdisciplinary research team and be committed to excellence in teaching and research. Successful candidates may apply as a team, or provide suggestions for additional members of their team. Applicants are sought with specializations in one of the broad strategic thrust areas within the College including Energy & Environment, Health-related Technologies, and Infrastructure Technologies, as well as more specific areas in nanotechnology and nanomedicine, and neuroscience and engineering. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Engineering or a closely related field and must possess credentials for appointment at any rank, based on a substantial record of scholarly work, excellent record of extramurally funded research, professional service, and a demonstrated ability to provide significant leadership and vision to a high quality research group.
