Title: ONRBAA09-038 New Concepts in Energy Conversion and Power Management
Comment: The Office of Naval Research, Sea Warfare and Weapons Department (Code 33), Ship Systems and Engineering Division (Code 331) is interested in receiving proposals for basic research initiatives addressing long-range needs for Navy and Marine Corps operations. Scientific study and experimentation directed toward increasing fundamental knowledge and understanding in the field of energy conversion and power management is sought. Farsighted, high-payoff research providing the basis for technological progress in power conversion and power management is of interest, and identifying / characterizing fundamental technology barriers is a key objective. The Naval S&T Strategic Plan and Next Generation Integrated Power System (NGIPS) Technology Development Roadmap are both good sources of information outlining the scope of future Navy interests relative to power and energy. Title: Bioengineering Research Grants (BRG)(R01)
Comment: Many major biomedical research problems are best addressed using a multi-disciplinary approach that extends beyond the traditional biological and clinical sciences.   Principles and techniques in allied quantitative sciences such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer sciences, and engineering are increasingly being applied to good effect in biomedical research.   Bioengineering integrates principles from a diversity of technical and biomedical fields, and the resulting multi-disciplinary research is providing new basic understandings, novel products, and innovative technologies that improve basic knowledge, human health, and quality of life.  Bioengineering also crosses the boundaries of scientific disciplines that are represented throughout academia, Federal laboratories, and industry.  This FOA encourages grant applications that propose bioengineering research projects that serve the mission of one or more of the participating NIH institutes or centers. http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-10-009.html

Title: Innovations in Engineering Education, Curriculum and Infrastructure
Comment: The Innovations in Engineering Education, Curriculum, and Infrastructure (IEECI) program supports research which addresses three aspects of engineering education: (1) how students best learn the ideas, principles, and practices to become creative and innovative engineers, and how this learning is measured (2) how to more effectively translate successes in engineering education research into widespread practice with consideration of curriculum, student learning, innovation models, and cyber-learning technology, and (3) implementation of programs for students supported by the GI Bill. Funding Agency: DARPA (Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO))
Title: DARPA-BAA-08-34
Comment: DARPA’s Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO) is issuing this BAA, which describes IPTO’s areas of interest, to allow continuous submission of abstracts and proposals that do not address individual program requirements covered by other DARPA/IPTO solicitations. The primary basis for selecting proposals for acceptance (if any) shall be technical, importance to agency programs, and fund availability. Submission of abstracts is STRONGLY encouraged in advance of full proposals, in order to provide potential offerors with an indication of the relevance and acceptability of their technical ideas under this BAA. Offerors are also encouraged to monitor the IPTO solicitation web page for information on program-specific solicitations (which may be better aligned with their research) and for special focus areas which may be amended to this solicitation at any time.
