| Civil engineering is the oldest of the
engineering disciplines. It involves the
planning, design, construction, operation
and maintenance of buildings, highways, railways,
airports, seaports, and other structures
of modern society. Given the global need
for rebuilding, maintaining and further developing
infrastructure, the demand for civil engineers
has never been greater. Civil engineers can
choose from a broad spectrum of career opportunities
in industry, government and private consulting. |

| The
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering program combines a background of interrelated
sub-disciplines of Civil Engineering with the
fundamental core subjects of the engineering
program. The technical interdisciplinary courses
are in the areas of construction, geotechnical,
environmental, structural, surveying, transportation,
urban planning and water resources engineering. |

Admission Requirements
Prospective students are encouraged to apply as
early as possible, in order to complete the
admissions process. Requirements include a
high school degree from an accredited institution,
official SAT/ACT scores, transcripts from all
previously attended post-secondary institutions.
Students transferring from a public university
or college within the state of Florida must
submit passing scores from the College Level
Academic Test (CLAST). To request additional

Financial
aid and Scholarships
FIU and the College of Engineering and Computing
offer a variety of financial aid opportunities
and scholarships to qualified students. The amounts
and eligibility requirements of these awards vary
depending on the type of award. Merit-based financial
assistance is highly competitive, hence, students

Degree
Requirements
The curriculum consists of 128 credit hours.
Lower division requirements include at least
60 hours of pre-engineering credits. Up to
90 academic credits may be transferred from
an ABET accredited institution of higher education.
In addition, all students must meet the University
Foreign Language Requirement, must pass the
CLAST or have it waived, and must meet all
of the state and university requirements for
