In
addition to meeting the admission
requirements of the Academic Program, online students
need to fulfill the following technical
requirements:
Browser
Requirements:
You should only use the fully released version
of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 5.0 or higher.
If you currently have AOL or MSN as your browser,
you will need to download and install a fully released
version of Internet Explorer. You can use AOL or
MSN as your Internet Service Provider, but use
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher as your
browser.
Hardware
and Software Requirements: Students must have the following in order to
participate in an online course:
Personal Computer that is an IBM or compatible
Internet Service Provider
FIU E-mail account
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
etc.)
Adobe Acrobat
Anti-virus software (McAfee or Norton)
Recommended
personal computer profile:
Windows 98, NT, 2000, or XP
Pentium 300 or faster
64MB of RAM (128MB recommended)
6Gb hard drive (50MB or more of free disc
space)
CD-ROM
and a 3.5" floppy drive
56 Kbps v.90 modem (DSL recommended)
Sound Card Speakers
Courses at FIU that utilize the Internet are
developed using the Web Course Tools software
(WebCT). We will be using WebCT Campus Edition
4.1 (CE 4.1) in the Spring 2005 semester.
International
Students
Federal regulations limit international students,
residing in USA on temporary visas, to a maximum
of one on-line course (3 credits) a semester
to count towards their full-time enrollment.
International students who take the program online
and will not be residing in the United States
are not required to obtain a student visa. Otherwise,
they need to follow the regular procedures for

Non-Degree
seeking students
A student is allowed to take classes as a non-degree
seeking student while in the process of gaining
acceptance into the graduate program they wish
to pursue.
The maximum amount of credits that may be later applied to the program is 12
